LATROBE, Pa. -- A 19-year-old accused of punching a St. Vincent College campus security guard in the face last year reached a tentative plea agreement on Monday.

Police said Alexander Lugar got into an altercation with three campus police officers on Dec. 1, 2011 after he passed out in his car with a cigarette in his mouth.

Campus police officers said after they were unable to wake Lugar up, one of the officers reached into the car to shut the engine off. At that point investigators said Lugar began kicking and punching.

Two officers were hurt and a third officer was called to help take Lugar into custody.

Lugar was originally charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault. A tentative plea deal would throw those charges out and Lugar would plead guilty to a single misdemeanor simple assault charge.
